Comix lust and 'Boilerplate', part 2

So following up on the last post, it looks like 'Boilerplate' creators Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett will be at next year's Rose City Comicon, September 10-11, 2011 at the Oregon Convention Center.

I'm looking forward to this event. A few years ago I enjoyed attending Seattle's Emerald City ComiCon, but I'm lazy and would love to see a real Con happen right here in comicentric PDX.

I drove north back then mostly to see writer and artist Dan Brereton, whose gorgeous and distinctive work is so much fun in his gothy 'Nocturnals' series. What's not to like about characters with names like Doc Horror, and The Gunwitch, "who lurk in the night and fight crime in Pacific City."

During the obligatory autograph collecting at Brereton's table, I mentioned my only complaint as a fan was how long a wait there was between his published projects. He explained that since he works in watercolor, his illustrations take longer to produce. Worth the wait, I'd say. His comix are painterly and expressive, with a visual depth and pop that only layers of watercolor can create. (insert fangirl sigh here)
